Getting a title shot is no easy task, it takes a long time, a certain amount of momentum and lately a certain amount of popularity. The latter has been the most important one in the era of WME-IMG as the clear contenders have been passed over for the "money fight". One of those contenders is Demian Maia.

Demian Maia is a 39 years old former Middleweight title contender who went down in the weight class to the Welterweight division in 2012 after his lost to the former Middleweight champion Chris Weidman. Maia made his debut against fellow welterweight contender Dong Hyun Kim and beat him by a first round TKO(muscle spasm), he had two more successful showings at 170 pounds before he ran into Jake Shields and Rory MacDonald to whom he lost decisions.

After those two disappointing losses came the unstoppable Demian Maia who started smashing everyone in his way, his list of victims include Neil Magny, Ryan LaFlare, Carlos Condit, Alexander Yakovlev, Gunnar Nelson, Matt Brown, Carlos Condit and the latest one Jorge Masvidal. Now that is a beyond impressive list of names to beat in a row and a list that would surely get you a title shot, right? Nothing is confirmed as of yet even though Dana White promised him that he will get his shot but we heard that before many times and it means nothing untill the UFC officially books it.

Maia is of course the kindest guy alive who will not trash talk his way to the title like many fighters are recently and crazily that might cost him his title shot again. In the division where the presence of George St-Pierre is looming again after his middleweight title fight against Michael Bisping got cancelled and to be honest if Tyron Woodley gets offered Demian Maia and GSP we all know who he is going to pick since he has been calling for a "money fight" since the night he won the title.

The impressive run of Demian Maia should and would be rewarded with a title shot in the perfect world, he has earned it in my opinion with the win against Carlos Condit but he took another fight against a very dangerous Jorge Masvidal to please the UFC and us, the fans and he pulled another win so in my mind Demian "The Human Backpack" Maia is the clear #1 contender even if GSP comes back to the division.

Do you think Demian Maia gets a title shot next?
